An Inside Conversation About Social Media
posted on 7/7/2010
Raquel says:
So tell me Shakeel. As a business owner why would I want a Branded Facebook Page?

Shakeel says:
well, my understanding is like;
- as a business owner i should have Branded Facebook Presence today like it was necessary to have www.com presence years back
- to let my Facebook connections and rest of FB community browse through my Products and Features while being inside FB instead of going outside
- finally to increase my customers base by making it a buzz between FB community

Raquel says:
Exactly.
I think that it's the next step in the evolution of the Web. Now instead of integrating your business with your Web site. You are integrating your business, your Web site and your social communities.

Shakeel says:
yes, you are right, but I’ve few questions about this combination

Raquel says:
yes let's talk about it.
I want to hear your side. I am writing the sales email and I want to make it as compelling as possible.

Shakeel says:
well,
1- Can social platforms like FB, Twitter, Digg, Delicious, Technorati etc do any thing Functional other than Marketing Tools?

2- Such things seems to be replaced after a certain amount of time, when people will find them more time consuming then being productive for their actual business

3- Do people around the globe use these social platforms for their day-to-day needs like shopping

4- Can these social things take place of Websites, Web Applications or Web Solutions

5- The biggest thing is that all of them are doing everything on their own standard
no common development methodology, technique, medium is there

Raquel says:
1. Yes - They can be a means for developing a customer service platform that addresses direct needs of the consumer while informing community members of what is going on inside the company. New products, services, recalls, ideas, it's another means of creating a culture that has no barrier between the client and the company.

2. In technology everything evolves. The Web today is not the Web of yesterday and it will not be the Web of tomorrow. Business owners are faced with having to evolve with it. Social is another evolution of the Web and the connection between people, businesses, causes etc. As a company whose main goal is to uncover opportunities to streamline the business process it is our calling to create the
integration mechanisms that make the evolution and transitions seamless. Like we have done with our facebook apps and connecting them with the Web site control panel.

4. Just like the Web site didn't take the place of the traditional business model the social platform will not take the place of the traditional Web site. It is still imperative to have a separate residence for the company online that is housed within a community but integrated with it.

5. Yes this is true and we will see that more and more as open source and cloud computing become more prevalent. It is up to us to create usable tools that streamline the process and integrate all avenues easily in one platform.

Shakeel says:
ok, got your points, and my concern at most is that these platform should have compliance with existing/stable/traditional models of Web to make them being used more and more

Raquel says:
Yes agreed. That is why we need to keep our standards for development. It's important that this be integrated with our control panel.

Shakeel says:
ok, agreed
so, how do you envision our control panel should be integrated with these social communities ?
I’ve few thing in mind regarding this
